The Update and beyond…

My very first steps into journalism (and indeed publishing) saw me at the helm of a challenging new title, The Update at the age of eight…

But if you’re only interested in my work as an adult, it’s all here…either follow the links below for detailed descriptions or read the bio underneath.

Bio

Since studying for a Masters in Journalism at Nottingham Trent University in 2005/6 (read more here) I have worked on a wide range of publications, including newspapers, magazines and online.

I wrote a series of articles for Nottingham-based culture magazines LeftLion and Exposed Magazine as well as the Nottingham Evening Post on a freelance basis.

I then moved to London and took a job at b2b publisher Emap, on Aesthetic Medicine magazine (no longer in existence). After a brief time there I moved on to Emap’s flagship title Retail Week where I took over as the magazine’s property reporter.

After 18 months at Retail Week and a six month period working in PR, I took a leap and travelled solo around South East Asia, keeping an ongoing journal of my experiences, some of which I have written up into travel articles.

When I returned to the UK I began a freelance project with travel writer Matt Carroll, conducting research and assisting with the writing of a new guide to cycling in England.

I then took a position at national news agency Barcroft Media, writing news and features for the national newspapers and some magazines. After an initial two month period this work continued regularly on a freelance basis.

I then began another project with Matt Carroll, this time assisting in a major revamp of the VisitEngland website. This continued until the end of 2010.

From the last quarter of 2010 I was involved in a major freelance PR project and since the start of this year have worked mainly in conference & events production, as well as some freelance feature writing for A1 Magazine and some news shifts at b2b magazine The Grocer.
